We are using WebTrends Marketing Lab ver. 8.5 along with our own SDC servers.
Can anyone tell me exactly how the File Not Found Errors Report works?

The help card days it's not supported if using SDC, and I can understand
why since a typical 404 page from a web server doesn't contain any javascript.

I was curious to know if anyone out there has added the WebTrends tag to their
outgoing error pages and if so, how could one get the actual Errors reports
to populate?

I also realize that adding the JavaScript tag to my web server's 404 page
will create a page view that will show up in my pages report. That's ok,
but I would also like to see a consolidated error report.

Your assistance or comments are greatly appreciated...

Marc

We have our 404 page tagged. This lets it show up in our pages report, and we can set up a simple custom profile for referring pages to that page. I never got the standard error reports to work though.

Really, we never treated it any differently from any other page. Now if I could only get them to start making custom pages for our 500 series errors...

The error report pages are driven from the return code in the logs. SDC assumes a 200 (success) return code unless you tell it otherwise. Although you've tagged your error page, SDC just considers this a normal webpage by default.

You can override this for 404 (and other code if you have other custom error pages) with the DCS.dcssta parameter. A meta tag will accomplish this:

<meta name="DCS.dcssta" content="404" />

See the section "SDC-Parameter Override Parameters" in the query parameter reference guide for more details.
