This is something I've thought about on and off for the past two years. From a technical standpoint, there is no security risk to adding webtrends pixels to secured pages - but try telling a bank that!

If you want to get the full blown WebTrends activity, you need to start treating the client's app servers as SDCs. Or, half of the SDC.

My thinking is that dumping as much info as you can in URL variables, including hits to empty-but-tagged redirect pages, and throwing them through more complicated log scrubbing scripts could theoretically get you a lot of what the average software user gets from an SDC.

There are limits, but with a large enough budget, I'm sure there's a way to even emulate multi-track using advanced scrubbing and telling WT that the logs are SDC's when they aren't really.

The other option is to write your own scripts or go nuts with whatever CMS is managing their sites and just manually add all of the WT parameters into the links on the site so that they always pass the WT parameters you want to use in the query strings (will destroy your organic search rankings by the way). You'd also have to have your own mechanism for assigning unique visitorID's and cookies as well and find a way to encode that into a parameter so it makes it into your IIS or Apache web logs.

The short of it is, you've got a ton of work to do to find some way of getting whatever parameters you need into the weblogs. WT will read and report on any data you put in the logs, we don't really care how it got there. SDC is just the easy way of getting custom info into a web log of some type.
