Hi All,
I was hoping to get an idea of how everyone compresses their daily SDC log files. My new SDC servers are currently writing one log a day, but they're not being compressed at the moment. I have a Perl script that I usually schedule for compression, but I don't have perl on these systems (security req). Does anyone use winzip command line? If so, care to share your batch file scripting? I'm on Windows 2003. Thanks |

I use Cygwin, but have you thought about using the Windows' scheduling service? I hear 2003 has patched a lot of the scheduler issues that plagued it back in it's original release. It's native and can use Windows' zip tool.

I wasn't aware you could use the built-in zip mechanism in a scheduled job. That would be most handy. I'll check in to it, thanks!

Windows 2003 definately has the ability in GUI to do this, but you/we need cli.
Compress/Compact almost works as needed. The compact command with switches, can run from cli via batch and will compress things, but doesn't meet the requirements you seek (not a native zip). The GUI compress works great, creats a zip folder and compresses everything in it. Copy a file to it and it automatically compresses. But, as stated, no cli for this. Dave |
