i use:
Win 2003
IIS 6
Webtrends 8.0d


We have the problem that we´re missing a logfile in the data-store.


This was logged in the Windows EventLog;i translated it from ger to eng Wink:

Also i checked some the logfiles for that day. All seams to be ok cause no errors occured.
The funny thing is, that the option IgnoreMissingLog?! ist set to false. I couldn´t find or get a error-message but i think there should be one, or not?

So the question is:
Where do i find significant logs?
How could the file be deleted or not be created?

Is your datasource on the local machine or do you use a network share or FTP?

Can you post some logs from the status log of the profile? If you start now the analysis, does the error occour again?

The data is stored on the local machine.
I´ve checked the filesystem and i searched for deleted files (*.log;*.dcsbusy). No luck.

Now we´ve no further problems yet. The windows error message occured again, but the logfile is not deleted.

Which logfiles do you mean? The logfiles from the processes like apache or tomcat oder do you mean the webtrends-logs?

Is it possible that webtrends doesn´t create a .log-file or .dcsbusy-file when no requests reach the server?

Yes! But I think you don't move the .logs after webtrends analysied them. So usually webtrends will always find logs.

In the profile and report overview, each profile has a status log (on the right hand side) and when you click on the log, you see two tables (the top one with less log and the lower one with a lot of informations). maybe you have a look at the bottom logfile for further informations..

No, we don´t move the files.
But the point that the logs wouldn´t be created if no request will reach the server is more interesting.

I checked the logs for the days before and after the "hole", i noticed that sometimes there were 1-2 logs. And as you said, that it found logs but webtrends doesn´t check if there is missing data between the last and current check. So webtrends seams to work properly.

The amount of the logs in the report overview are limted for a couple of days. The logs i posted here are the same entries.


Can you please explain me how webtrends work?
- request to server
- write request to dcsbusy
- when is dcsbusy copied/moved to log
- run analyse of log
- save data

I think there could be two reasons:

1. The dcsbusy/log-file was´nt created because there where no requests -> Connection problem

2. The dcsbusy-file couldn´t be copied/moved to a log-file

This depens on you config - usually once a day or after xxx KB - you can adjust this value to your needs.

The rotation is set to daily and after 2gb logsize.
Regardless to these settings, there are sometimes 1 or 2 logs and their timestamps are random or in other words: there isn´t a similarity.

It is also strange that the missing logfile wasn´t created directly after the rotation of the last log. The latest entry in last log was from 23:59:59. So i seams that there was a problem with the rotation.

Does webtrends log the rotation of the logs? ^^

One more setting is: When there is no request within x minutes, the log will rotate.

Webtrends has no effect to the sdc, they work independent.

you can edit the logrotate at the sdc\cfg\ folder, there is a config file.

sdc does the rotate of the logs

I checked the log of the sdc.
I found error messages that the temp-files (*.dcsbusy) sometimes cannot be renamed to log-files (*.log).
in the windows-logs you can find the error in the first entry of this topic.

Also there is a error with the writebuffersize.
